Romantic Gamine Ingenue

If your face looks both youthful and conventionally sexy, you might be a Romantic Gamine Ingenue.

While Ethereal Dramatic Naturals are defined by their elongated features, Romantic Gamine Ingenues are defined by the opposite: typically short noses and chins, with eyes and lips that often appear curvy, even circular.

Romantic Gamine Ingenues reveal to us the beauty of features that are overtly round.

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Fashion

Romantic Gamine Ingenues wear playfully glam and girly fashion. Just like their faces, their best outfits appear youthful while also having high sex appeal.

This top perfectly mixes youth with sexiness. It has:

  • Ingenue lace with tiny uniform rounded shapes (Romantic lace will tend to have larger, curvier, less orderly shapes)

  • Romantic bust emphasis

  • Gamine cropped fit and overall boxy shape

A cropped leather jacket can have a lot of Gamine, too (just make sure it feels playfully edgy rather than intimidating—leather jackets often have Dramatic).

Pair with white skinny jeans to add even more Gamine. White slim fit capris can also work for Ingenue.

This might not exactly fall into the category of realistic fashion, but the two-piece set embodies RGI. It has:

  • Romantic sweetheart and off-the-shoulder neckline

  • Gamine very cropped top

  • Ingenue short tiered skirt

Sheerness usually adds Ethereal, but since the skirt silhouette is so Ingenue, and the outfit’s overall vibe is so RGI, there’s no significant tranquil Ethereal feel. The red glitter embellishment also feels too glam and bold for gentle Ethereal—it’s a great Romantic Gamine texture.

A more wearable version of RGI fashion, from the model on the left—an Ingenue Gamine cardigan, plus Romantic curving and waist-emphasizing top with Ingenue tiny delicate ruching.

From what we see of the pants, they also have Romantic with the larger ruching on the waistband.

The gentle color scheme underscores Ingenue, but you could add even more Gamine with a pop of color in makeup or shoes.

An embodiment of glam yet sweet RGI style, with a Romantic top, Ingenue skirt, and Gamine from the fun slides and overall playful vibes (the slides have some Romantic overt sexiness, too).

A theme of Romantic Gamine Ingenue fashion: lots of cropped silhouettes.

This reflect that the RGI face feels both youthful and sexy, and that short hemlines can easily embody both youth and sex appeal.

It also reflects that RGI faces tend to lack elongation, making maxi dresses tough to pull off:

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Neetu Chandra has a stunning face, with beautifully rounded and short features.

When Neetu Chandra wears a floor-length gown, its extreme length clashes with her face’s compact shapes.

So while she’s still amazingly beautiful, the dress drags her face down a bit.

A shorter silhouette (midi or above) would better flatter her beauty.

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Makeup

Romantic Gamine Ingenues get incredibly fun makeup options.

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Charli XCX

Conventional beauty advice says to emphasize eyes or lips, not both. But Romantic is enlivened by glamorous, elaborate makeup (including simultaneous eye and lip emphasis), and Gamine is gorgeous in bold, creative makeup.

So darkly tightlined eyes, long lashes, and a vibrant lip work for Charli XCX. The lip shade feels a little vibrant for her color season (more saturated than her skin), but the lip color’s vibe really does work for her playfully glam style type.

Charli XCX is amazingly captivating in bold makeup, because she has a ton of Romantic and Gamine.

But RGIs who have high amounts of Ingenue will be more flattered by lighter lip colors, gentler lashes, and no tightlining.

In fact, even faces with a ton of Romantic are sometimes overwhelmed by intense tightlining:

This aggressive tightlining conflicts with RGI Francia Raisa’s soft beauty.

She does have a lot of Romantic, and Romantics are great in tightlining and eye emphasis.

But Francia has enough Ingenue where all-around-outlined eyes feel too heavy.

Much better—here we can really see her, rather than being distracted by extreme eye emphasis. And if you look close, her eyes actually are still mostly tightlined in a dark color. The key is that here the tightlining stops before her inner eye corners, creating gentler, subtler eye emphasis that better flatters Ingenue. The lip gloss in a light color helps with that, too.

Finally, if you’re an RGI with a lot of Gamine, you can pull off some really creative looks:

How can someone look so natural in electric blue winged liner, emphasized with a lighter accent color toward the inner eyes?

Having a lot of Gamine makes this an awesome makeup application for RGI Rita Ora.

The light pink lips with very gentle gloss tie in her Ingenue, while her arched and tapered brows bring in Romantic.

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Hair

Can RGIs pull off long hair? Yes, but long, straight hair on RGI will tend to feel too heavy (Dramatic), similar to the effect of wearing a long, severe maxi dress.

Charli XCX is so gorgeous regardless of styling, but this long sleek hair doesn’t make too much sense with her face. And anything longer would really clash with her compact features.

RGIs can pull off long hair, but typicall only if the hair is in full, glamorous Romantic curls or tight Ingenue ringlets.

Even RGIs with a lot of Romantic might find that anything beyond a few inches below the shoulders starts to feel too heavy, since Gamine prefers short hair (bob-length and above) and Ingenue prefers more moderate lengths.

Are Romantic Gamine Ingenues short?

RGIs generally want to avoid extreme elongation in their hair and outfits, and even in makeup (for instance, winged liner is generally great for Romantic Gamine Ingenue, but wings that feel both angular and extra-long should be avoided, as they can bring in Dramatic).

This all brings up the question—do Romantic Gamine Ingenues tend to be short?

The answer is, not necessarily.

Any body type can have any style type. While there might be patterns and correlations—for instance, Ethereal Dramatic Naturals might tend to be tall on average—body type and style type don’t always correlate.

In fact, I’d generally advise ignoring your body type, including your height, when determining your style essences, because it can be misleading.

For instance, Romantic Gamine Ingenue Mariah Carey is tall—reportedly anywhere from 5’7’’ to 5’9’’. Romantic Gamine Ingenue Neetu Chandra is also tall, listed at 5’7’’.

So even if you’re tall, you can still be an RGI.

And even if you’re short, you won’t necessarily have any Gamine or Ingenue in your face. Some people have a longer face shape while not having a long body, like Dramatic Natural Sarah Jessica Parker, who’s only 5’3’.”

Romantic Gamine Ingenue Mistypings

Romantic Gamine Ingenues can have very recognizable faces, in part because most of the other types have some degree of facial elongation (e.g., some amount of Natural, Dramatic, or Ethereal).

Romantic Overlooked

But overall, RGIs tend to be very challenging to type, because they defy many essence stereotypes.

For instance, sometimes people who look strongly youthful are assumed to not have Romantic, since Romantic appears stereotypically mature.

So Romantic Gamine Ingenues with a lot of Gamine and/or Ingenue might have their Romantic essence go overlooked—especially when they’re not wearing glam makeup.

RGI Hannah Murray

Google Hannah Murray and you’ll see that she’s gorgeous in full Romantic waves and glam makeup. But an extremely minimal makeup look and relaxed styling makes the high-maintenance, elaborate nature of her Romantic facial features much harder to see.

Mistyped as Dramatic

Other Romantic Gamine Ingenues, especially those with a lot of Romantic and Gamine, might be mistaken for having Dramatic, because Romantic passion combined with Gamine angularity can sometimes mimic sharp-edged Dramatic intensity.

RGI Francia Rasia’s passionate Romantic and pointy Gamine might be mistaken for imposing Dramatic. But Dramatic styling, like long sleek straight hair, isn’t her most flattering look.

This can also be compounded by the fact that some RGIs might be considered “Theatrical Romantics” in Kibbe’s body typing system—Romantic with Dramatic influence.

Other Possible Mistypings

RGIs’ compact faces and small features might lead them to be mistaken for having the moderation of Classic.

Their round faces, which can create a full-looking, sometimes wide jawline, could also be mistaken for having Natural.

And while RGIs probably aren’t commonly mistaken for having Ethereal, if you’re familiar with the Romantic Ethereal Gamine type, then you might recognize that Romantic Ethereal Gamine and Romantic Gamine Ingenue can look extremely similar, and be difficult to tell apart without a thorough draping process.

What Makes RGIs so Beautiful: Neoteny and Maturity

Many different theories exist about what makes a beautiful face.

My view is that beauty, logically, is ultimately a matter of opinion (just like any other aesthetic, sensory judgment—favorite song, favorite color, favorite ice cream flavor, etc.).

With that said, there are common themes in what people tend to find attractive.

One is facial neoteny—features that retain youthful, even childlike or babyish characteristics, like large foreheads, round eyes, and small chins.

Another is sexual maturity—features that suggest that an individual is not a child and instead is of viable reproductive age, like full lips, prominent cheekbones, and arched brows.

The fascinating thing about Romantic Gamine Ingenue faces is that they tend to have high levels of both kinds of traits—neotenous and sexually mature. So RGIs seem to have widely appealing beauty.

It’s also interesting to note that while the Romantic essence isn’t stereotypically associated with a youthful appearance, Romantics also tend to have many features that can be considered neotenous, including large eyes, small chins, and relatively large foreheads.

This is why it’s somewhat misleading to say that Romantics tend to look “mature.”

It’s probably more accurate to say that as a child and teen, a person with a lot of Romantic will look mature for their age, whereas that same person as they progress through adulthood will likely begin to look young for their age, because they retain their curving Romantic features (like full cheeks and lips), which are indicators of biological youth.

So, Romantics look old when they’re young, and young when they’re old. Whereas Gamines and Ingenues tend to look young across time.

Another way of saying this: Romantics tend to look figuratively mature, but beyond the teenage years, they tend to look young in a literal, biological sense.

Whereas across time, highly Gamine and Ingenue faces tend to look young in both a figurative and literal sense. This is because Gamine and Ingenue faces project figuratively youthful qualities (energy and cheer, for Gamine; sweetness and innocence for Ingenue), and both essences also have literal characteristics, like overall rounded, short faces and features that make them appear biologically young.

Regardless of age, when you combine passionate Romantic, flirty Gamine, and sweet Ingenue, you get an extremely alluring, endearing type of beauty.
