Ethereal Dramatic Natural
Dramatic Naturals have strikingly unique faces.
Ethereal Dramatics have supernatural, sometimes vampiric beauty (more on that below!)
And both DNs and EDs tend to have modelesque bone structure and features.
So Ethereal Dramatic Natural faces simultaneously fit many popular beauty ideals and stand out as refreshingly different.

Ethereal Dramatic Natural fashion
Ethereal Dramatic Naturals get a tremendous range of fashion options.
As an EDN, you can:
Heavily emphasize your Natural essence to wear the most casual fashion possible, from oversized pullovers to roomy sweatpants
Heavily emphasize your Ethereal and Dramatic essences to wear runway-ready, high fashion style
Emphasize all your essences to create a look that’s somewhere in between
One of the easiest ways to do Ethereal Dramatic Natural style is to create an edgy version of the Ethereal Natural boho aesthetic:
A simpler version of this look could have been highly Classic—a white blouse paired with white pants. But the extremely deep angular neckline combined with the monochromatic color scheme feel Dramatic (as does the slicked back hair). The long, gently gathered fabric adds Ethereal, while the width of the blouse and relaxed feel add Natural.
Another EDN look:
This look exudes relaxed Natural vibes with the casual tank and loose knit sweater. The flowy shimmery pants have a lot of Ethereal and bring in Dramatic with the sharp geometric print.
If you’re highly Ethereal Natural, you could even do a fully Ethereal Natural outfit and incorporate Dramatic in other aspects of your style, like adding large geometric jewelry.
A dressier Ethereal Dramatic Natural outfit:
There’s a lot going on in this outfit, which can be the impression you give off when you combine highly Ethereal, Natural, and Dramatic elements—all the different vibes communicate an intriguing, multilayered story that somehow reads as a coherent whole.
What makes this read as unified is the moody monochromatic palette, which also helps emphasize the Dramatic feel of the skirt (the straight shape and hard shine make the skirt Dramatic, and it’d be especially Dramatic if it ends up being a maxi silhouette). The sheer, long sleeve blouse is a great Ethereal staple and layering piece. And the oversized jacket worn on just one shoulder has a lot of casual, oversized Natural.
Ethereal Dramatic Natural faces
Ethereal Dramatic Naturals often have “conventional yet unconventional” beauty. Part of why: they combine all three elongated essences.
Since runway models also commonly possess elongated features, facial elongation has arguably become a part of mainstream beauty.
But even if we’re used to seeing facial elongation on models, elongated features still tend to feel unique, because in general we’re more used to seeing features of average lengths.
So when you combine a lot of elongation in a single face, the eye can be entranced by all the novelty.
Otherworldy faces
The Ethereal and Dramatic essences combine unique elongation and unique narrowness, resulting in an out-of-this world, angelic quality for Ethereals and a modelesque, intimidatingly angular look for Dramatics.
So if an Ethereal Dramatic Natural has primarily Ethereal or Dramatic, they can look especially supernatural.
Interestingly, while the most famous onscreen vampire might be Ethereal Dramatic Robert Pattinson, several Ethereal Dramatic Natural men have also played vampires—Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Ian Somheralder.
This illustrates how Ethereal Dramatic Naturals can embody otherworldly beauty. Other EDN celebrities who easily embody mystical, surreal qualities include Cate Blanchett and Najarra Townsend.
An Ethereal Dramatic Natural with a lot of Natural might have a more down-to-earth, less supernatural vibe, but will often still have unique elements to their beauty.
One example—EDN Lisa Kudrow. She has notably friendly, relaxed Natural, and those may be her most noticeable qualities at first glance. But if you study her features, like her long narrow nose and wide-set eyes, she could easily fit in playing an otherworldly character on a show like Game of Thrones, especially in a costume that emphasizes her Ethereal and Dramatic essences.
Ethereal Dramatic Natural hair
Since Ethereal Dramatic Naturals tend to have long faces, a lot of hair advice would tell them to use shorter cuts to make their faces look shorter.
To me, this is an example of people regurgitating bad beauty advice without stopping to consider whether it’s logical.
The advice that people should use short hair to “balance” longer faces doesn’t really make sense, for two main reasons.
First, long faces are inherently beautiful. They’re both uniquely beautiful and commonly seen on many mainstream actresses and models.
So there isn’t any reason you need to make a long face look shorter.
And second, even if you’re determined to make your long face look shorter, pairing a long face with short hair is not only unharmonious, it can actually draw more attention to the face’s length.
Why? Because of the contrast between the short hairstyle and the long face. Things that contrast markedly tend to bring more attention to one another.
Saying that a short haircut makes a long face look shorter is kind of like saying that if you’re six feet tall, you’ll look shorter if you stand next to someone who’s three feet tall. In reality, obviously the opposite is true—tall people look even taller when they stand next to short people. Similarly, long faces tend to look even longer when framed by short hair.
Ethereal Dramatic Naturals like Blake Lively and Gisele Bundchen are breathtaking in their signature long, flowing locks, and tend to be less flattered by bobs or lobs (Google to see!). There’s no need for them use short hair to try to make their somewhat long faces look shorter—short hair is actually less flattering and harmonious when paired with their elongated style essences.
When choosing a hairstyle as an Ethereal Dramatic Natural, your best hair is likely to extend at least several inches past your shoulders. As for texture, you can choose between sleek, straight Dramatic hair, Ethereal mermaid waves, or beachy Natural layers. See more on finding your best hair.
Are Ethereal Dramatic Naturals tall?
Since Ethereal Dramatic Naturals have elongated facial features, we might wonder if they’re typically tall.
Glancing over my list of EDN celebrities, many of them do seem to be taller than average—though not all of them. For instance, EDN Haylie Duff is only 5 feet 3 inches.
So overall, Ethereal Dramatic Naturals might tend to be tall, but there’s definitely exceptions.
I’ll likely write about relationships between body type and style type in the future, but the basic principle I’ve observed is that people with elongated faces don’t necessarily have tall, elongated bodies.
Ethereal Dramatic Natural Hollywood families
Several very famous families blend high amounts of the Ethereal, Dramatic, and Natural essences:
Demi Moore (Ethereal Dramatic) and Bruce Willis (Dramatic Natural) have three Ethereal Dramatic Natural daughters—Rumer Willis, Scout LaRue Willis, and Tallulah Willis.
Similarly, Ethereal Dramatic Uma Thurman and Dramatic Natural Ethan Hawke have an Ethereal Dramatic Natural daughter, Maya Hawke.
(Interestingly, Uma and Ethan both starred in the sci-fi film Gattaca. Uma’s character was conceived by futuristic genetic engineering technology, which is symbolized by her futuristic-looking Ethereal Dramatic type. In contrast, Ethan Hawke’s character was conceived by natural conception. His dual nature—a member of a futuristc society who wasn’t conceived by futuristic technology, and instead who was conceived naturally—is symbolized by his Dramatic Natural type.)
Additionally, Dramatic Natural Classic Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethereal Dramatic Natural Chris Martin have an Ethereal Dramatic Natural daughter, Apple Martin.
I like to type biological families, because it’s one way to increase the odds that my typings are accurate, as well as to show patterns in what the types look like in faces.
Based on observation, the vast majority of people will have a style type that blends essences from both their parents, without incorporating essences that neither parent has (though exceptions are certainly possible to this general rule).
Controversial Ethereal Dramatic Naturals: Kate Winslet
The Ethereal and Romantic essence have notable similarities: both can have medium to large, curving shapes, and can give faces a highly feminine quality. One main way they’re often distinguished is with the conception of Romantic as passionate and Ethereal as much less so, even “passionless.”
But I don’t really agree that Ethereal is “passionless.” Romantic faces do tend to read as more emotionally intense. But you can also argue that Ethereals look intensely dreamy, and that their otherworldly, meditative gaze evokes a seriousness and a wisdom that does have its own unique form of intensity.
We could say that Ethereals appear to have a passion for knowledge, wisdom, truth, the spiritual, etc.
That said, it is true that in general, Romantics will look more intense, emotional, and conventionally passionate than Ethereals, and you can argue that for that reason, Romantics are also more conventionally sexy.
But if you consider some of the most famous celebrities with a lot of Ethereal, like Ethereal Dramatic Natural Kate Winslet, you’ll find that they’re often mistaken for Romantic—so people do think that certain highly Ethereal faces can have this intensely passionate, Romantic quality.
I think part of why Kate is mistaken for having Romantic is a. her curvy figure and b. especially when combined with the intensity of Dramatic, Ethereal can seem to take on a much more intense quality, and so can seem to have the passion of Romantic.
My main point in detailing all this is to say 1. Ethereal Dramatic Naturals may commonly be mistaken for having Romantic and 2. Ethereal Dramatic Naturals often have a ton of conventional sex appeal.
(I want to eventually do a more thorough post on why Kate has Ethereal and not Romantic!)
Boho or bombshell?: Dita Von Teese
Another example of how Ethereal Dramatic Naturals can exude sex appeal is famous burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese. Dita is known for her glamorous aesthetic, and to be honest I think her style is typically far too Romantic to flatter her face. Her curly hair is a big clue that she doesn’t have significant Romantic or Ingenue, because whenever you crop a picture of her to obscure her curly hair, her face tends to look a lot more harmonious not surrounded by circular shapes.
So Dita doesn’t have Romantic in her face, but I do think she has a strongly sensuous vibe, and not just from her hair, fashion, and makeup, but from her features themselves. Again, the intensity of Dramatic combined with the curving shapes of Ethereal can mimic the deeply passionate, curving Romantic essence. And while Romantic and Natural in some ways have opposite vibes—glamorous vs, casual—their commonality is in a certain worldly, arguably sensual, quality (both essences tend to evoke notions of the real, physical world, as opposed to Ethereal, which feels otherworldly).
So it doesn’t at all surprise me that some, maybe many, Ethereal Dramatic Naturals are thought to have Romantic, and that arguably one of the most famous modern glamor icons is an EDN.
Ethereal Dramatic Naturals have a ton of sex appeal and curving-meets-intense-meets-raw-beauty. They illustrate how there are many ways to exude a conventionally and uniquely sensuous nature.
