Fun and Flirty
Bratz Doll
Romantic Gamine
The Romantic Gamine aesthetic combines curving, passionate Romantic with pointy, playful Gamine.
Passionate Romantic + playful Gamine = flirty. Totally objective fashion math. But see below for alternate ways of viewing this glam and fun style type.
Romantic Gamine celebrities
See Romantic Gamine celebrities on Pinterest.
So far I’ve verified only two celebrities as purely Romantic Gamine (RG)—Holly Valance and Stacie Orrico.
Pure RGs are a gorgeous and apparently rare type.
Romantic Gamine blends
But many celebrities have a three-essence blend that includes both Romantic and Gamine. Here’s Pinterest boards for the RG blends:
Fashion for Romantic Gamine
This part may not go over well if you don’t want to dress like a Bratz Doll, but a tip for Romantic Gamines is to dress like a Bratz Doll:
Short skirts, pleated skirts, crop tops, cropped jackets, stripes, faux fur, lace, bling, elaborate makeup—Bratz Dolls wear a lot of Romantic and Gamine. And their fashion can be channeled into real-life Romantic Gamine looks:
Do all Bratz Dolls dress purely RG? Definitely not. Their outfits sometimes include other essences.
But the overall theme of the Bratz aesthetic is playful glamour—very Romantic and very Gamine.
Fashion for Romantic Gamine blends
Bratz were released in 2001, and early-2000s fashion in general can provide a lot of Romantic Gamine inspiration, though commonly includes other essences, too.
Specifically, Romantic Dramatic Gamines can take inspiration from the edgiest Bratz Dolls.
Romantic Natural Gamines can take inspiration from more casual early-2000s style.
And Romantic Ethereal Gamines can combine early-2000s style with Ethereal Gamine mermaid-like fashion.
Why are Romantic Gamines rare?
Why are pure Romantic Gamines apparently so rare? I honestly don’t know.
I do think Romantic may be the least common of all the essences. But Romantic isn’t rare in general—many celebrities and non-celebrities have Romantic. And Gamine may be one of the most common style essences.
Having only two essences is also less common than having three. But again, many celebrities and non-celebrities have only two significant essences.
So for now, Romantic Gamine rarity seems like a mystery.
If you don’t want to be a Bratz Doll
Describing Romantic Gamine as “Fun and flirty” and “Bratz Doll” makes me think of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry agrees to wear a puffy, pirate-like shirt for an appearance on The Today Show and then tries to get out of wearing it, explaining, “I don’t wanna be a pirate!”
If you’re Romantic Gamine, you may not want to be a Bratz Doll.
And you definitely don’t have to be—because the way you look, even the way you dress, doesn’t necessarily reflect your personality. At all. So even if you dress like a Bratz Doll, that doesn’t mean you possess the inner qualities, or lack thereof, that may be associated with these dolls.
Also, if you’re Romantic Gamine, you don’t even have to dress like a Bratz Doll. There are other ways of interpreting this essence blend.
One approach is to emphasize the casual Gamine elements of this type, like by wearing fitted Tees, jeans, and Converse, and add Romantic in details. This can come off as looking more down-to-earth and less like a glam doll.
A Bratz Doll might wear this Tee with Gamine athletic piping and Romantic lace detail, but, like, a chill Bratz Doll.
You might also emphasize the more grown-up elements of Romantic to create a look that feels more serious than playful Bratz style. Romantic style can appear highly sophisticated, with its emphasis on luxurious fabrics like lace, silk, and velvet, silhouettes like midi skirts, and prints like abstract florals.
If you do want to embrace Bratz Doll fashion, that’s great, too. Romantic Gamine Holly Valance makes it look really fun:
