Romantic Ethereal Gamine
Ethereal Gamines look like mermaids, and Romantic Ethereal Gamines look like mermaids with glamorous, sultry faces. Their beauty feels mystical, playful, and alluring.
Romantic Ethereal Gamine celebrities
At least several celebrities with iconic eyes are Romantic Ethereal Gamine (REG). This includes Alexandra Daddario, Mila Kunis, and Aishwarya Rai (all pictured above), plus Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz, and probably more.
While not all Romantic Ethereal Gamines possess extra-large eyes, having this feature can be a clue that you’re an REG.

Romantic Ethereal Gamine makeup
Since Romantic Ethereal Gamines have mesmerizing eyes, your makeup game-changer as an REG is eyeshadow. No other makeup product better enhances your standout feature.
You can choose from smokey Romantic shadow, shimmery Ethereal shadow, and colorful Gamine shadow—or combine elements of all three.
For REG, eyeshadow tends to look best in medium or light shades, with blended and soft edges, and when it has dimension rather than appearing flat. Dimension can be achieved by choosing a shimmery finish or using a lighter shade on your lid and a darker shade in your crease. This is especially true if your combined amount of Romantic and Ethereal is greater than your Gamine.
If you have mostly Gamine, you can handle a sharper, less blended eyeshadow application.
As an REG, you can also combine eyeshadow with generous mascara and tightlining, like Aishwarya Rai:
If you have a lot of Ethereal, dark tightlining can appear harsh, but it really flatters your Romantic and Gamine essences. You can experiment with including or not including it, or with tightlining in dark liner on only your upper and not lower waterline (or only on the outer half or third of your lower waterline).

Romantic Ethereal Gamine fashion
REGs have endless options for combining their essences in outfits. Here’s just a few:
If you have more Romantic and Ethereal than Gamine, you’ll be breathtaking in Grecian-inspired fashion, like midi or maxi dresses with sexy necklines and narrow, flowy skirts. This Romantic Ethereal dress also has Gamine because of the short silhouette and fun print:
As an REG, you have the mermaid-like quality of the Ethereal Gamine type. So you can wear styles like Gamine crop tops and long Ethereal mermaid skirts. If these pieces are extremely fitted or have very curvy shapes, they can become Romantic Ethereal Gamine:
If you have a lot of Romantic and Gamine and a smaller amount of Ethereal, you can even dress like a Romantic Gamine Bratz Doll and bring in Ethereal in details or in hair and makeup.
Romantic Ethereal Gamine faces
Mesmerizing—mermaid-like—goddess-like. Romantic Ethereal Gamines have standout faces.
But despite all their distinctiveness, Romantic Ethereal Gamines are often mistyped.
Why Romantic Ethereal Gamines are commonly mistyped
REGs are commonly mistaken for having Dramatic, and sometimes Natural, especially when their bone structure has both Ethereal elongation and Gamine angularity.
For example, before typing Romantic Ethereal Gamine Carly Chaikin, I guessed she would have Dramatic, because at first glance, she seems to have elongated Dramatic bone structure.
But after virtually draping her, I realized Dramatic lines didn’t suit her, and that her bone structure likely combines elongated Ethereal with angular Gamine, which can mimic the look of elongated, angular Dramatic. (And sometimes Ethereal and Gamine can mimic the look of wide, blunt-edged Natural.)
Carly also has an intensity and an edgy vibe that can mimic the look of Dramatic. Gamine is a literally edgy essence, composed of angular shapes, so it makes sense that faces with Gamine can sometimes look figuratively “edgy” and intense.
While Gamine in isolation often has a playful vibe, when you add in the passionate emotion of Romantic and the dreamy, serious feel of Ethereal, Gamine can seem to acquire a more serious quality.
Romantic Ethereal Gamine subtypes
So Romantic Ethereal Gamines can be divided into at least two subtypes.
One Romantic Ethereal Gamine subtype tends to have overall more shortened, rounded faces—a subtype is depicted in this post and below:
REGs Rihanna, Aishwarya Rai, Emily Browning, Phoebe Tonkin, and Kristen Stewart.
Because their faces aren’t markedly elongated, this subtype may be less likely to be mistaken for having Dramatic than other types of REGs (though they may be mistaken for having other essences, like Natural, because having a rounder face can also make a face appear wide).
A second type of REG would include REGs like Carly Chaikin, Kat Dennings, Lauren Miller, Sabah Koj, and Angela Sarafyan, all who appear to have more elongated faces than the first REG subtype.
This second subtype may often be mistyped as having Dramatic, such as Romantic Dramatic Gamine, Romantic Ethereal Dramatic, or Ethereal Dramatic Gamine.
Here’s REG Angela Sarafyan—with her bone structure, she might be mistaken for having Dramatic:
Types like REG, RED, RDG, and EDG do look characteristically different, but the differences can seem extremely subtle.
Are you a Romantic Ethereal Gamine?
Determining your essences is difficult because there aren’t any definite facial features that characterize the blended types. Romantic Ethereal Gamines do commonly have large, heavy-lidded eyes, but other essence blends can also have very large eyes, and not all REGs have this feature.
So how do you know if you’re an REG? The best methods are virtual draping—testing which styles of fashion look best with a face—as well as familiarizing yourself with how the different types tend to look.
Beauty that defies words
Romantic Ethereal Gamines may often be mistyped, but I’ve come to recognize that they have a very characteristic, surreal beauty. It’s hard, maybe impossible, to describe in words exactly what differentiates them from related essence blends. But if you study the types long enough visually, while you might not be able to verbalize exactly what defines Romantic Ethereal Gamine beauty, it is something you can learn to see.
